It involves the development of computational tools for managing, processing, and analysing large amounts of biological data, such as genetic sequences, protein structures, and even molecular interactions. Bioinformatics aims to understand and discover complex biological systems and mechanisms using sophisticated programs. In other words, it is an interdisciplinary field that develops methods and software tools for understanding biological data, in particular when the data sets are large and complex.
