Biophysics is the field that applies the theories and methods of physics to understand how biological systems work. The Biophysical Society is a non-profit international organization related to physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering. Membership in the Society is open to those who have educational, research, or practical experience in biophysics or in an allied scientific field, such as physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering. Members are welcome from all over the world in order to participate and contribute to the life of our society. The Biophysical Society supports members in all stages of their careers, from undergraduates to emeritus. The Biophysical Society exists since the 1950s. The first biophysics meeting was held in Columbus in 1957.
